The Bible states in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." As Christians, we should be a studier of the Word of God and obey the teachings for salvation as well as the answers to life's other questions.
We must be careful in listening to teachings that do not adhere to biblical teachings. Recently a popular television pastor during a sermon stated that "Christians must unhitch old testament from their faith." By studying the bible it is easy to discern that this is false doctrinal teaching. The old testament is the very foundation to the new testament. Jesus in several places quotes from old testament writings in his teachings. To "unhitch" would leave questions about our own salvation like; "Why do we have a sin nature?" or "Why do we need to be saved?"
Paul writes in Romans 15:4, "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." There are several good teachers and preachers of the scripture, but it is up to us to search out the truth of what they teach. The truth is in Jesus Christ and not in men. Colossians 2:8 is clear in this stating, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."
May God bless you!!
